Michelle has been working in the field of maternal child health for over two decades. Currently she works at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma WA, an affiliate of Catholic Health Initiatives. Michelle now works as a Lactation Consultant where she performs lactation evaluation, assessment, and referrals, provides breastfeeding support to inpatient mothers and newborns, and serves a level III NICU. She is formerly adjunct faculty for Bates Technical College where she earned a WA state vocational/technical career training teaching certificate having satisfied course work in adult education, teaching and group development theory, occupational analysis, and curriculum development. Over her 17 years of teaching for Bates Technical College Michelle taught childbirth classes to the public and provided career training to future perinatal educators, lactation educators, and birth doulas. Michelle is the program coordinator for the Franciscan Family Education program and the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Lead for Franciscan Health System (FHS) WIC clinics located in Lakewood, and Parkland, WA. As the Peer Counselor Lead Michelle is involved in the administration of the FHS WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor program, and she trains and mentors WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors who serve WIC participants.
Michelle has served more than 5000 perinatal education students and trained hundreds of future perinatal educators, lactation educators and birth doulas. She has also participated in small scale not for profit social program development, design, implementation, management, and evaluation and has an interest in conducting and publishing lactation research. She is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Western Washington University where she majored in Human Services ~ Generalist Social Work. She has experience teaching professional continuing education to RN's, Childbirth Educators, Doulas, Lactation Educators and Consultants as well as various professionals trained in disciplines related to supporting childbearing women and their families. Her hearts desire remains her adored 3 children, and the flame still burns for her husband, a fireman. Her CV is available upon request.
